P3: Explain how different sound elements are used

Sound characteristics

Educate

Television accommodates to viewers various learning styles by providing a unique blend of sight, sound, motion, and emotion that can help students better grasp the world around them. They can watch historical events being performed out, the solar system being studied, and books being brought to life.  As an example, I've chosen Blue Planet II. David Attenborough presents and narrates a wildlife documentary series that explores the world's waters. In series 1, episode 1, at 7:40 the narrator, explains how dolphins act and the sound of the dolphins explain their activity, this educates the audience on what they do.

Entertain

Video games are entertaining because they take us to new worlds while also satisfying our desire for accomplishment and recognition. Puzzles and mini-games keep us interested in video games, and their attention to detail keeps us engaged. Video games use sound tracks and sound effects to get us interested. There are a large list of video games that entertain users, an example would be Uncharted. Uncharted is a PlayStation exclusive that is based of a story. Throughout the game, there is the use of dialogue "As thrilling as the next adventure may be, in the end, you're always left with that same feeling". This makes the audience more engaged as it gives an insight on what the story is going to look like.

Inform

During the opening and finish of a TV news broadcast, dramatic sound is used to alert viewers. Jingles are used in advertisements, which are a sort of media, to communicate a product's or company's brand identity. This is accomplished through the use of memorable phrases and a catchy music. The target audience associates the company's distinctive voice with the marketed product. Haribo, for example, uses a catchy song at the end of their advertisement to successfully exploit brand awareness. Jingles are used in advertisements to assist viewers in identifying the product. Since 1995, they've utilized the term "Kids and grown-ups love it, the lovely world of Haribo," making it distinctive and significant to the broader audience.

Sell Products

An animated ad is any digital display unit that moves, regardless of how complex or simple the movement is. Static banners, on the other hand, have no movement; they're the digital equivalent of your morning newspaper. This is clearly shown in the Heinz's new baked beans advert, with the use of sound effects of an explosion, it engages the viewer and makes it more effective. Since it supports the trial and error of the beans. With the use of this, it makes the viewers want to go out and buy the product.

Wild tracks

Wild tracks are a recording of conversation or sound effects made on the set of a film but without the camera being turned on. Wild tracks are commonly employed to acquire a clean recording of conversation that would otherwise be impossible due to the noise-producing instruments (e.g., wind turbines) that must be turned on during filming. An example would be from the archers, the actors have a conversation and there are sound effects being played, this makes the audience more engaged.

Atmospheric Sound

This is environmental sound, including such wind, birds chirping, rain, and so on. This is used to avoid the appearance that artificial calm in a scene as well as to specify where it is preserved. To generate natural scenes, audio-visuals have been employed in the background of various media texts. Because the action in the Direct Line advertising takes place outside, the creators added sound cues such as birds chirping in the background and the elderly man's automobile revving. Also, right at the start of the advertisement, we can hear gas hissing in the background, indicating that the car has broken down.

Sounds effects

Human voices, music, and sound effects are used in the production of films. These three sorts of noises are essential for a film's viewers to feel authentic. Sounds and language in a film must be in perfect time with the action and must sound exactly as it appears. Many consider The Godfather to be the finest picture of all time, as it makes flawless use of nearly every filmmaking technique available. Yes, sound effects and design are an important element of the mix, as Francis Ford Coppola's gangster family favorite is also a sound masterclass.
In actuality, much of the sound recording, design, and effects were done by the incredible Walter Murch, who would go on to become one of the most famous personalities, not just in sound design, but also in setting the standards for how we cut films even today. Murch's sound effect work in The Godfather is an excellent example of how sound can be utilized to facilitate cuts, establish themes, and further immerse spectators in a compelling plot.
